My kid has awesome dinner conversation. Just as we were getting ready to sit down for dinner tonight, Jackson decided that he had to poop first. (Which is find and better than the excuse to get out of doing dishes after dinner!!) When he asked for help, he proceeded to tell me that his poop was organge and that it must have been from the carrots that he ate at lunch. A couple of things here:
1) He ate carrots at school, but he won't eat them at home for his parents. No idea why.
2) He pays attention to his poop and what could have caused it to turn colors. Awesome!
As he was coming out of the bathroom, after washing his hands, he told Josh that he watched his poop come out and it was orange. I was dying. Josh wasn't too thrilled about talking about bowel movements right before dinner. Jackson didn't really think there was anything inappropriate about the whole conversation.
Change subject here...
Jackson's teachers have implemented a new system at school to encourage the kids to be good (I guess). It is a stop light - green: they were good all day; yellow: they got a warning; red - they were put in time out. If by the end of the week, the kids were on green or only on yellow once or twice, they get to pick something out of the treasure box (aka a box full of junk, but the kids love it!!).
I told you that to tell you this (in memory of Mark)....
A few weeks ago, Josh started bribing Jackson to go to bed more peacefully than he was. He was throwing a fit every night at bedtime, not wanting to go to bed. It was awful. When he would get to bed, he wouldn't stay there. Or he would cry for an hour. Anyway you looked at it, we weren't happy about it. So on came the bribe.... Josh told Jackson that if he went to bed and didn't cry or throw a fit, he could stay up 10 extra minutes the next night. And so on and so on.
Well - it worked!! Since then, we haven't been fighting Jackson to go to bed. It has been awesome! He knows that he gets to stay up a little later if he is good.
I told you that to tell you this....
Last week, Jackson came home twice with an "I was on yellow" on his daily paper. Apparently he was wrestling and running around, when they were supposed to be sitting down for reading. Mom and dad don't like it when Jackson is on yellow. So yesterday, I told Jackson that if he got on yellow this week, he would lose his 10 minutes at night. He had to be good at night AND stay on green at school to earn his 10 minutes. If he gets on red, he had to go to bed early... 7pm instead of 8pm. He wasn't thrilled with the idea of going to bed early. So this morning, he told me that he was going to be good at school today, so he would stay on green and get to keep his 10 minutes. (He's a fast learner!!) So I asked him about the yellow and red punishments and he remembered those as well. I think we are on to something here!!
The really sweet part about Jackson going to bed on his own is listening to him at night. Sometimes we read a few books to him before we leave his room. Sometimes we don't. Sometimes, he just reads to himself. Josh and I have found ourselves sitting at the top of the stairs just listening to him carry on a conversation by himself, or read his books to himself. He has a great imagination!
Not that his picture has anything to do with this post, but it's super cute and I wanted to share it.
Also in memory of Mark - someone from the church took this photo on their cell phone from Mark's funeral service. Innocence.
